Wrexham AFC’s Hollywood owner Ryan Reynolds has gone above and beyond for the city and donated an Aviation Gin advertising slot to help promote a local business, with a twist, in the Welsh city
Wrexham AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds has shown his class by advertising a local business, while also cheekily promoting his Aviation Gin in the process.
The advert has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and locals alike, including the business owner of Regent House of Flowers – based on Yorke Street in Wrexham. The advert starts with Reynolds talking to the camera, saying: “As co-chairman of Wrexham AFC, I am proud to support the entire city of Wrexham – that’s why I’m donating this Aviation Gin commercial time to a beloved local business.”
The video moves to a shot of Regent House of flowers, before panning to a giant image of an Aviation Gin bottle on the side of a building.
The rest of the advert follows suit with cheeky nods to Reynold’s gin company throughout. Flowers are moved to reveal gin bottles, and at one point three decorative stones read: “This is an ad for Gin.”
Despite the clear nods, the advert still portrayed the local business, something to which the company has since reacted to on X.
“I cannot thank @VancityReynolds Enough for this opportunity, its been a hard 3 years for me personally , this whole experience helped put my spark back & determination to keep us here thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful experience,” the post read.
The advert was even celebrated by Reynolds himself who responded to the post, adding: “I happen to love this ad almost as much as I love Regent House of Flowers.”
The shop’s owner, Laura Evison, has also expressed her joy at being involved following 35 years at the business. “It all feels very surreal,” she said via The Leader. “Ryan’s people came and filmed in September, and it was incredible for my staff.
“I have the most amazing support team in Harriett, Natalie, Jess and Ron, who are my rocks. I’m so glad my team got to share the day and experience this. To see your business on an advert that is being broadcast in the US and to millions of people online is just amazing.”
“What Ryan and Rob have done for Wrexham is just phenomenal,” she added. “I don’t think anyone could have envisaged just how amazing they’d be not just for the football club, but for Wrexham as a whole. I’m so grateful for Ryan for giving us the opportunity to be showcased and help put us on the map.”
The advert is the latest in a long list of momentous occasions Wrexham has witnessed following the takeover from Ryan Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney. The club’s journey has been well documented via the pair’s docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham” which charts their journey from the National League up the footballing pyramid.
The club currently plies its trade in League Two and sits second in the table. The club will be hoping for further success when they face Yeovil Town next in the FA Cup second round at the Racecourse Ground.
